Here at Oppo, we're always looking for ways to spread the feel good whether that be eating our ice cream or giving back to the community!
We are super excited to be launching a BRAND NEW flavour this October and wanted to organise a soft launch for those based in our office building.
As this new flavour goes perfectly with a cup of coffee, we thought why not host a Macmillan Coffee Morning and help raise money to support the incredible work Macmillan do for those affected by cancer.
We wanted to pop the Oppo spin on it so rather than the World's Biggest Coffee Morning with coffee and cake, we made it the World's Biggest Coffee Afternoon with coffee and ice cream.
In total, we have raised a total of £175!
Thanks a bunch to our neighbours in the Food Exchange for their kind donations and for being the very first to try our newest #GoodTemptation addition.
Any guesses what our new ice cream flavour could be?
Keep your eyes peeled on our social channels @oppobrothers

There's nothing more relaxing than enjoying a new book with a few scoops of ice cream in the sunshine. And we're all about flavour that makes you feel good. So for lots of wholesome summer me-time, we've teamed up with our friends at Pan Macmillan book publishers to give away a bundle of books and ice cream. Simply enter your details here to win six of the hottest new titles along with six of our coolest flavours (see what we did there).
Now, we wouldn't recommend anything we wouldn't try ourselves. So the Oppo team have given each book a read and paired it with the best accompanying flavour.
Christye, Marketing
"Single, Bald Female is the type of book that will stay with you for a while. It's so emotional and moving, it really touches you and is a beautiful story of friendship. It also has it's honest and funny moments at the same time. Best enjoyed with comforting Cookies & Cream."
Georgina, Operations
"This charming novel set at a women's magazine during WW2 made for a thoroughly joyous and heart-warming read, filled with moments of delight much like my favourite Oppo flavour Strawberry Cheesecake. The perfect pairing for your summer staycation! "
Megan, Product
"Found myself completely drawn into the lives of all the characters. Brilliantly written and ties up nicely at the end. Love finding a book you can't put down and this was one of those books. Works well with a tub of Oppo Double chocolate brownie ice cream, I can never put that down either !"
Hannah, Marketing
"Just like my Caramel Cookie ice cream tub, I couldn’t put this book down during my lunch breaks! The title ‘The Love Of My Life’ led me to believe it would be a standard love story but oh how wrong I was! Suspense, mystery and thrills were had with every page and similar to Caramel Cookie delivering highly on flavour, this book delivered highly on keeping you gripped! 100% recommend both the ice cream and book!"
Sally, Product & Operations
"Schools out for summer! And I finally get the time to unwind with a good book and tub of Oppo, whilst my kids play (or attempt to throw each other in the pool!). Just like Oppo Double Salted Caramel, The Golden Couple is elegant and satisfying from the first page, with a delicious rewarding twist running right through the middle of the plot. A perfect holiday read!"
Trinity, Finance
"Eva Carter has done it again! Owner Of A Lonely Heart is full of heart warming moments, and should only be put down if you are picking up a tub of Vanilla Caramel Brownie to enjoy with it!"
Hearing about B Corp, we saw that here was a framework that would enable us to stay focussed, highlight areas for improvement, and just felt like the right thing to do.
As you might know, B Corp involves assessing a company’s performance against five key categories: governance, workers, customers, community, and the environment, with a minimum of 80 points needed. They look at you through a microscope, to make sure you're meeting the highest standards of social and environmental performance.
But we read that while more than 100,000 businesses have signed up for the B Corp Impact Assessment, yet only 3,500 have passed and been certified worldwide, which is a tough pass rate! To get this might be hard, but it would be worthwhile.
We're not perfect and have got a long way to go, but we're incredibly excited to tell you that we've been certified and are now an official, bona fide B Corp.
It's a big motivating mother of a milestone on our journey towards being a better company for people and planet!
This certification has given us all increased momentum to continue what we are doing, in creating a place of work where all kinds of people can thrive; optimising our operations and logistics to reduce our carbon emissions, using sustainably sourced, FSC recyclable foil free packaging (planting three trees for every one we use); ethically sourcing our ingredients; using processes that reduce our water and energy consumption; minimising food waste, and doing things like tree60, our goal to plant 60,000 trees by the end of 2023 (we've already planted 15,000 and growing, mind the pun!).
Thank you to Sally, Sophie, Matt, Marcel and Silvia in particular but the whole team at Oppo for achieving this milestone and always striving to be a better business.
If you're reading and work for a company that is interested in becoming a B Corp, be prepared to have one or two unexpected detractors either inside or outside your company who might advise strongly against pursuing certification because it would distract somehow from the one objective they think you should have of only delivering shareholder value. They might say that in an economic downturn where margins are forever being squeezed, you should focus on your knitting and well, turning a profit. But the higher than average commercial success of our more than 700 fellow B Corps in the UK shows that not only does focussing on people and planet as well as profit in your business make it a whole lot easier to get up in the morning to go to work, it has the side effect of delivering more shareholder value too.
We're very happy to support anyone reading this who is interested in becoming a B Corp - we're near the start of our journey as well but if we can help we will. In our experience, the earlier you start the easier it is and the best way to create positive change is to model it for others to see, so go for it, you've got nothing to lose!

Happy baking,
This International Women's Day, we're spotlighting the incredible women of Oppo who are all playing a vital role in the growth of our business.
Oppo is proud to be gender equal.
As of March 2022, 50% of our Senior Department Heads at Oppo are women and with the exception of us as Founders and our Senior Heads, over 50% of the wider team are women as well.
These women play pivotal roles in:
Together, they continue to pave the way in helping us become Europe's fastest growing ice cream brand.
Crucially, it's also the women in our business that are driving our sustainability agenda.
From sourcing the most sustainable packaging and ingredients possible through to managing our B-Corp application process. From monitoring and evaluating our carbon footprint through to helping us achieve our goal of planting 60,000 trees by 2023 in partnership with TreeSisters - it's the women of Oppo who are leading these initiatives (Christye, Hannah, Megan, Sally & Silvia).
All of the above (and more) is why it's a pleasure for us to introduce them to you.
Get to know these amazing women better by scrolling below!
What's your proudest career moment so far?
Receiving an award for the highest achieving UK sales representative whilst working in the field for Diageo, enabling me to be put forward and selected onto my company's management development programme at the time.
What career advice would you give to your younger self?
Never benchmark yourself against others. You are your only competition - this mindset facilitates feelings of progression and builds a much more positive outlook; enabling you to grow as an individual, rather than constantly comparing.
Who's your female inspiration?
Waris Dirie - Somalian fashion model, author, and women's rights activist known for her efforts to eliminate female genital mutilation (FGM). Waris is an icon, and has proven that with resilience and grit, you can achieve, lead and empower - The Desert Flower, Waris Dirie's memoir, is an eye-opening and powerful read if you get a minute!
What's your IWD message to those reading?
I love Serena Williams' quote: 'Every woman's success should be an inspiration to another. We're strongest when we cheer each other on.' - As we continue to build one another, we all grow and succeed. Whenever you get the chance, raise women up around you.

Don't be afraid to share your opinion or to make decisions - it really is how you learn, so don't let fear get in the way!

What career advice would you give to your younger self?
Don't be afraid to set more boundaries for yourself at work. Whilst it's great for development to say yes to as many opportunities as you can saying no on occasion will ultimately be much better for your wellbeing and in turn what you can offer in your role.

Dolly Parton. I adore her! And if you don't feel the same way just listen to the Dolly Parton's America podcast and prepare to have your mind changed!

It's never too late to switch your path. Don't feel that what you studied at university has to be the field you have to stick to - you may not have known your passions at that point in time so don't be afraid to explore what's out there!

Happy baking,
Of course there is:
Of course the latter is more meaningful than the former. Although in modern society we love a quick fix (whether that be seeking social media likes, a spot of retail therapy, reaching for a glass of wine or a tub of ice cream). We so often resort to temporary pleasure as a default without tackling the larger goal of are we actually happy, and if not then finding a long term solution.
Mo Gaudat (the pioneer of ‘1 billion happy’) believes that every child is born with the default setting of happy. However we gradually focus on the wrong things, causing us to become unhappy over time. If we click reset and strip all of the modern day paraphernalia back and focus on what actually matters, we can find it easier to reach true happiness.
No mention of happiness, fulfilment or feeling good. We chase ‘growth’ almost without definition, which is great, but often get confused as to the direction we want to grow in. The ‘rat-race’ is exactly as it sounds. It’s exhausting, ultimately unpleasant, and many people find they run the race with no enjoyment of the race itself or indeed any active belief that they will or won’t enjoy the finish line (whether that be the weekend, the next holiday, or ultimately retirement). What about a focus on being happy throughout, instead?
Mo defines happiness as: “greater than or equal to your perception of the events of your life, less your expectations of how life should behave”.
He describes the equation as the way we think about the events of our life and compare them to realistic expectations is what makes us happy or unhappy.
So if you don’t feel you already have this, dig down and be very clear with yourselves on what breeds satisfaction, internal gratification and ultimately, makes us happy and feeling fulfilled. But how? One method some use is to project yourself to being 80 years old, and looking back on your life or a set decision and trying to minimise the number of regrets you have – or indeed ask what advice you’d give your grandchildren (then give it to yourself!). It’s a huge process to look within and find what makes you happy, but this is a responsibility we all have to ourselves and those close around us. If we are happy, that rubs off on our family and friends. So don’t do it for yourself, do it for them.
We believe a business that works to enhance the lives of others is a business worth working for. We want to make people feel good. Whether that be from eating Oppo, to the good we do as a business. Our ice cream tastes good, is comforting and healthier, and we manage our supply chain very carefully to have as positive an impact on our suppliers and the environment as possible. We're also aiming to be carbon neutral by the end of 2022 through careful management of our emissions and planting 60,000 trees; we support many charitable initiatives from cocoa plantations in Colombia; and we donate thousands of tubs to charities, nursing homes and schools across the UK. We have also removed 5.5 billion calories from consumers diets since we launched based on consumers eating Oppo vs another traditional ice cream, and so on.
But we are always looking for more that we can do. Through lockdown many people had a lot of time to think, and have uncovered dreams or desires they have that they now want to explore. We might be back in lockdown periodically, but it seems we will have to learn to live with that, and adapt.
We are calling on the nation to explore lockdown dreams that would make you ‘feel good’, and to tell us about them by entering here.
Every week, we will pick the entries that we feel are the most authentic, worthy and need our help to be realised, and will do our best to help make it happen. Use £1,000 to upgrade your me-time moment, like taking those music lessons you’ve always wanted, starting horse riding again or to set up your side hustle. Or you could use it to help others – start a school breakfast club, build a nature garden, or plant trees. Or it might not be about money at all and you might want an internship at a food business, or a mentoring session with one of the team to discuss your passion in supply chain / marketing etc.
To get your chance to win £1,000 every week, tell us your idea of how you’d use it to do good.

Happy baking,
Our mission here at Oppo Brothers is to make the world feel good through our great-tasting, lower calorie ice cream.
At this time of year we think it's especially important to do some good in the community and bring some feel good to those who need it the most.
This December, we're proud to have donated 2,500 tubs of our brand new Cookies & Cream ice cream to some incredible organisations across the UK to help brighten days and lift spirits over the festive season.
These organisations include Crisis, Commonside Community Development Trust, The Big Difference at Above Bar Church, Solace, various care homes and more!
We'd like to take the opportunity to spotlight some of the wonderful work these organisations are doing for such important causes so please do keep reading and carry on scrolling.
Crisis is the national charity for people who are homeless. They help people directly out of homelessness and campaign for the political commitment and social changes needed to solve it altogether as no one should be homeless and alone.
Every year, Crisis works side-by-side with thousands of homeless people at 11 Skylight centres across the UK. These centres help people leave homelessness behind for good through education and training, as well as support with housing, employment and health and wellbeing.
We're proud to be supporting Crisis this Christmas by providing a freezer to one of their Skylight centres and filling it to the brim with ice cream for those who are facing homelessness to enjoy.
The Commonside Community Development Trust is an organisation creating a better future for ourselves, our families and our communities.
The team at Commonside work to improve the lives and environment of people living in Merton through managing a community centre, running community events and a number of community development programmes.
Pictured above is the lovely Tina, tucking into a tub of ice cream at one of the organisation's lunch clubs.
The Big Difference is a food redistribution project serving the community of Southampton, based at Above Bar Church in Woolston. They work with charities and community groups in Southampton to help struggling families and the vulnerable who are facing food poverty.
In total, The Big Difference has given out 4111 food parcels, 720 homeless packed lunches on the street and 39630 frozen meals, and are currently feeding an estimated 250 people per week. The value of the food distributed so far comes to an astonishing £222,450 (as of December 2020).
We've proudly donated 1,500 tubs of ice cream this December for those in Southampton who need a sweet treat the most this Christmas.
For more than 40 years, Solace has supported women and children in London to build safe and strong lives. Futures free from male abuse and violence. They find creative and innovative ways to support thousands of women and children each year.
It is reported that 1 in 3 women will experience abuse in their lifetime and so far Solace has worked with 27,414 women & children across their services and runs 22 refuges across London.
We are proud to stand with them to end violence / abuse now and have donated ice cream tubs to be distributed amongst 3 of their refuges.

Gestational diabetes effects as many as 5% of women in the UK and the majority of women that develop the condition have no previous history of diabetes.
During pregnancy, your placenta makes hormones that cause glucose to build up in your blood. Usually, your pancreas can send out enough insulin to handle it. But if your body can't make enough insulin or stops using insulin as it should, your blood sugar levels rise, and you get gestational diabetes.
People that suddenly find themselves in this situation have lots of questions such as:
Will gestational diabetes go away?
What can I eat with gestational diabetes?
What should a gestational diabetes diet plan look like?
What sweet treats can I eat with gestational diabetes?
The good news is that there are dessert options out there for when you have a craving for something sweet. We’re proud to say that Oppo Brothers ice cream is one of them! Gestational Diabetes UK actually recommends Oppo ice cream as one of the few sweet treats you can enjoy during a GD pregnancy. In fact we’re often mentioned on the Gestational Diabetes Facebook page!
Whether it’s a chocolate treat like our new Double Chocolate Brownie or going crazy for caramel with our Caramel Cookie ice cream there’s always an Oppo ice cream that you can work into your gestational diabetes food plan that won’t spike your blood glucose levels. We even have gestational diabetes vegan options too like our Double Salted Caramel Swirl. Whatever your choice, Oppo ice cream makes the perfect GD snack.
Many Oppo fans discover us through their Gestational Diabetes journey and decide to stick with us for life as an indulgent lower carb ice cream choice without compromising on taste!
So, if you haven’t tried us yet why not pick up a tub in your local supermarket or order online via the grocery websites?
Enjoy,
In recent years, popularity of the keto diet plan has skyrocketed with many hailing its support in weight loss and reducing blood sugar levels. Consequently, one of the most common questions submitted through our email inbox (team@oppobrothers.co.uk) refers to it: "Is your ice cream keto-friendly?"
We would love to provide a simple yes or no answer but, the science makes it a little more complicated than that! So, let us start by understanding what a keto diet plan is.
Primarily, the body runs on glucose, a carbohydrate. If your body is low on glucose, it will start to break down fats for energy. A ketogenic diet consists of food consumption that is high in fat, moderate in protein and low in carbohydrates. This reduced carbohydrate intake puts the body in a natural metabolic state of ketosis where the body breaks down fat (instead of carbohydrates) into ketone bodies and uses these as its main source of energy (rather than glucose).
When Oppo was founded in 2014 to create feel good indulgence without compromising health, our ice cream was not specifically made or intended to be a keto diet food. We use natural sweeteners such as erythritol in our products resulting in an overall lower carbohydrate content. Erythritol is a sugar alcohol (polyol) which has almost zero calories and helps satisfy the sweet tooth when your keto diet does not allow for those calorific, highly refined sugar-containing chocolate bars. Erythritol is less energy dense than glucose so will not be absorbed by your body and a continued state of ketosis can remain.
However, it is important to note that everyone’s keto diet plan is different (there are over 8 different types of keto diet) depending on individual needs and reasons for following one such as diabetes. We fully recommend carrying out detailed research beforehand as our ice cream may or may not be suitable for your own personal requirements, but it is fair to say we have had great feedback from those who have added Oppo to their keto diet plan over the past 7 years.
So, if you are looking for sweet treats on keto, Oppo is certainly an option! To save you doing the maths, our ice cream tub flavour with the lowest net carbohydrates is Double Salted Caramel Swirl which will be right up your alley if you are in the mood for a lighter option that is not overly sweet on the palette.
To help you make informed decisions regarding your own keto journey, you can find the nutritional values for all our products here. Just click on the specific product you would like to know about and scroll down. Sorted!

Happy baking,
At Oppo Brothers, our mission is to make the world FEEL GOOD.
A core part of this is our commitment means behaving in a sustainable way and at Oppo Brothers we like to take an open approach to this using all aspects of our business as a force for good. We aren’t perfect but we do make a conscious effort to minimise our impact on the environment and do our bit to make the world a nicer place - we see this as being a process of constant improvement and not just a one-off project. We have a long way to go, but every day we are closer to achieving our sustainability goals.
We already have a number of initiatives that we’ve been working on to achieve this:
LOCALLY PRODUCED FRESH MILK - our milk is produced by meadow-grazed cows located only 10km away from our creamery. The cows graze in meadows for the majority of the year (weather permitting) which we believe makes for better quality milk and better tasting ice cream. The small dairy farm we work with employs circular farming methods meaning that waste from the cows is sequestered back into the farmland and nearby forests as natural fertiliser.
LOW ENERGY HEAD OFFICE - our Head Office in London is located in The Food Exchange, an exciting new low energy building for food entrepreneurs. It’s in fact one of the top buildings for energy efficiency in London.
REDUCING EMISSIONS, INCREASING WELLBEING - most of our team run, walk or cycle into the office where possible to minimise our impact and stay healthy too - our flexible working culture means putting our team’s wellbeing at its heart so that we’re all happy, healthy and ready to making the world’s best ice cream.
MAXIMUM INDULGENCE, MINIMUM CALORIES - creating indulgent ice cream that doesn’t compromise your health is at the very heart of what we do and we are passionate about creating products that benefit the health of society. So far, we’ve saved our customers 5.3B calories and 424M grams of sugar. Ensuring people are healthy today and in the future is an important part of sustainability for us.
GREEN ENERGY FACTORIES - some of our factories (packaging) use solar energy as a contributing source of power generated on site
ETHICAL SOURCING - we ethically source our Colombian fina de aroma cocoa from cocoa cooperatives where profits are re-invested back into the farming communities to educate on sustainable farming methods
MORE SUSTAINABLE PACKAGING - you might have noticed that we’ve removed gold foil from our packaging. Back in 2019 when we performed an analysis of our carbon impact we were surprised at just how much heat is needed to apply gold foil onto packaging. What’s worse is the fact that gold foil on paper is actually very difficult to recycle too so we knew we needed to do something about it. In 2020 we launched our new look tubs with no gold foil - a much more sustainable choice.
MINIMISING WASTE - where possible we will always try to minimise wastage when it comes to our ingredients including, but not exclusive to packaging which is why sometimes you’ll see something a little different from what you might be used to at the shelf. We don’t believe in throwing any packaging away.
TREE PLANTING FOR OUR PACKAGING - in line with this new trees are planted for every tree we use to produce our packaging and all the paper comes from PEFC certified sustainable forests.
TREE PLANTING FOR SOCIAL CHANGE & RESTORATION - in 2021 we will go one better and also start a tree planting initiative in collaboration with the TreeSisters organisation. Together we will plant The Oppo Brothers Forest so that every tub that’s sold goes to contribute to making a difference to the lives of the women that plant them, the communities within which they live and have a positive impact on the planet too.
B CORP - as part of our commitment to the planet, we are on the way to becoming B Corp certified and hope this will happen in 2021.
SHARE IT, DON’T THROW IT - we never throw perfectly good ice cream away when it can’t be sold in the shops any more - we always give ice cream away that’s still within its shelf life to someone whose day would benefit - from homeless charities to food banks to the elderly - we like to spread the feel good whenever we can.
We like to think that our approach to sustainability benefits not only our customers but also our team and the broader world in many different ways.
If there’s something you think we should consider let us know at team@oppobrothers.co.uk
]]>We launched ‘Oppo Delivered’ at the start of the pandemic last April when we were all having to queue outside supermarkets, people were being made redundant, and we all had to stay at home. We figured out a way to try and bring a smile to people’s faces by sending Oppo ice cream to your door, with a free tub for your neighbour too. It was great to hear stories where this small gift started friendships. The feel good element was maximised even further as we could employ people who were out of work due to lockdown, and our profits went to NHS charities.
Since then, we have expanded our distribution in the UK so that you can now find Oppo ice cream in more supermarkets. Now that things have opened up again, we felt it was a good time to bring our delivery service to a close so that we can focus the efforts of our small team.
We are proud of what we have achieved with ‘Oppo Delivered’, and it has only been made possible by you spoke thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
You can continue to find our ice cream up and down the country in Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, M&S Food, Whole Foods Market and online at Ocado.com. You can check if we are stocked in your local store here.
Come October, Oppo will be available in even more locations in the UK, and we are working on some exciting new flavours and initiatives, so please do keep reading our occasional email updates or follow us on Instagram or Facebook to hear more!

The best part about the weekend for us? Lazy mornings with a yummy brunch. This recipe is the perfect balance of health and indulgence for your Sunday mornings. With high-fibre oats and bananas, this low sugar treat will brighten up your day! Just watch out, you may need to make double the amount. They are delicious…
Ingredients -
Method -
Begin by mashing the bananas in a large mixing bowl using a fork. When they have a liquid-like consistency, add both eggs and the chocolate syrup before combining.
Next add the oats, baking powder, cocoa powder and a pinch of salt before using a wooden spoon to mix it all together. Allow to rest for a few minutes.
While the mixture sits for a little while, add a few sprays of cooking oil to a frying pan on low heat. Once hot, dollop the mixture into the pan in a circle shape. Wait two minutes before flipping with a spatula.
When both sides are cooked - it’s time to plate up! Our favourite way to serve these is with a huge scoop of our Colombian Chocolate and Hazelnut ice-cream and grated dark chocolate. All that’s left to do is enjoy!
